The GÀBIA collection, designed by Pep Gramage for VICAL, is a profound exploration of silence and delicacy, drawing deep inspiration from Japanese architecture and the ancient art of kumiko. Crafted from meticulously latticed mango wood, these storage units masterfully balance the tension between light and shadow, presence and absence. The rhythmic wood slats filter light and suggest the contents within without fully exposing them, creating an intimate atmosphere that invites quiet contemplation. This collection is more than mere furniture; it is an essential architectural element that modulates space and infuses the home with a sense of serene, understated beauty.
The range features a vertical armoire reminiscent of traditional Japanese shutters, a horizontal sideboard designed as a balanced “line of rest,” and a sophisticated media unit that harmonises modern technology with organic warmth. Each piece features a solid framework contrasted by the ethereal lightness of the lattice doors, which project shifting shadows throughout the day. Whether concealing household items or providing a stable base for contemporary devices, the GÀBIA units transform storage into a meditative ritual. By softening the visual impact of daily life, these pieces act as domestic sanctuaries of order, offering a threshold between the visible world and private intimacy.
