KRONOSPAN: Innovation, Sustainability, and Global Leadership in the Wood Industry
With over 120 years of history, KRONOSPAN has firmly established itself as the world leader in the manufacture and distribution of wood-based products. Founded in 1897, the company has grown exponentially, becoming a pioneer in innovation and sustainability within the industry. KRONOSPAN offers a broad range of value-added products, including melamine-faced boards, countertops, wall panels, lacquered HDF, and laminate flooring. Supplying high-quality solutions for the furniture industry, retail, renovation, and DIY sectors, the company continues to push the boundaries of design and functionality.
Operating in 129 countries and backed by a global distribution network spanning five continents, KRONOSPAN is constantly expanding. In Spain, it has three strategically located production facilities: in Tortosa, currently undergoing expansion, in Salas de los Infantes, and in Burgos, significantly strengthening its production capacity on the Iberian Peninsula. In Europe, one in four pieces of furniture is made using its boards, reflecting the brand’s influence on the sector. Additionally, products manufactured in Spain not only meet local demand but are also exported to Portugal, North Africa, and Latin America, among other regions, thanks to their strategic location.
A reference point for creating products that combine functionality, design, and sustainability, KRONOSPAN has a forward-thinking vision marked by its commitment to circular economy and environmental stewardship.

The DNA of KRONOSPAN: Sustainability and the Circular Economy
At the heart of KRONOSPAN’s business model is sustainability. The company proudly integrates circular economy practices into its production processes, prioritising recycling, waste reduction, and the efficient use of natural resources through actions such as sustainable forestry. This holistic vision not only improves operational efficiency but also actively contributes to environmental preservation.
One of KRONOSPAN’s most notable achievements is its ability to manufacture 100% recycled wood boards, a product that not only boasts a negative carbon footprint but also helps prevent the felling of six million trees each year. Additionally, the company is actively involved in reforestation efforts, planting one million trees annually as part of its sustainability initiatives.
Another key aspect of KRONOSPAN’s circular economy approach is its commitment to renewable energy. All its factories in Spain have made significant investments in photovoltaic installations. As a result, the Terres de l’Ebre factory now operates 100% on renewable energy during certain hours of the day. By 2025, when the solar parks currently under construction at the Burgos and Salas de los Infantes plants are completed, these sites will also meet this sustainability target, enhancing the company’s overall energy efficiency.
Future Projects in Spain
Among KRONOSPAN’s key projects in Spain is the expansion of its Terres de l’Ebre plant, which will begin producing OSB boards. This product line is essential for the construction sector, offering superior structural performance while aligning with the company’s sustainability principles. This initiative is particularly relevant for Spanish forests, as it is linked to increased sustainable forestry activities, which help reduce the risk of wildfires and protect biodiversity. This expansion is yet another example of KRONOSPAN’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable growth.
KRONOSPAN is revolutionising the global wood industry. With a network of more than 40 production sites worldwide, coupled with large strategically positioned logistics centres, the company offers its clients premium products at competitive prices with quick delivery times. Without a doubt, KRONOSPAN is the ideal partner for manufacturers and distributors looking to grow their businesses.
