BOLN launches SAREK and ABISKO, two innovative collections for indoor and outdoor contract spaces

What happens when an innovative material, which is soft, tactile and extraordinarily resistant, combines with great modularity, functionality and versatility? The mix of all these elements has given as a result a new furniture brand, BÕLN, with a very comfortable, flexible, and highly adaptable proposal for public and collaborative spaces, based on a new, original technology called FLEXYSKIN®.

Supported in its manufacturing process by POLIURETANO RIVAS, a 40-year experience industrial company specialized in the injection of polyurethane foams, the new brand has taken advantage of the parent company’s wide experience in the production of PU components to develop a new technology that improves the properties and the performance of the polyurethane foams. FLEXYSKIN® is a new patented foam made from a soft core of polyurethane wrapped in a very resistant and durable layer.

To ensure the new project had consistency, the firm asked Stone Designs Studios to develop new collections for them. It was a challenging experience for the designers as they had to learn everything they could about the new technology; they didn’t know how the material behaved and what they could do with it. Nevertheless, in the end they achieved to create SAREK and ABISKO, a modular seating system and a line of stools, respectively, that are robust and compact but impress for their organic, comfortable volumes, the tactile quality and the colourful appeal.

Highly sustainable, FLEXYSKIN® is produced from vegetable wastes and thanks to its recyclability and lightness it leaves a smaller logistic footprint. It is suitable for the outdoors and the intensive use in collective space as it does not alter or deform and is also fire-proof and resistant to extreme weather conditions. In addition to this, the seamless, fluid, and organic design of pieces facilitates frequent cleaning, while surfaces have antifungal and antibacterial properties certified under the JIS Z 2801 (ISO 22196) standard.

BÕLN’s new collections have been specifically designed for intense use in contract spaces because the material meets all the standards required for this kind of environments, both indoors and outdoors. All the pieces can be used to create vibrant, uplifting atmospheres and micro-architectures in shared spaces in hotels, shopping malls or residential areas, but also in offices, co-working spaces, airports, sport facilities, stores, waiting room, bars and restaurants. The functional character of pieces, the vast array of colours and accessories available, optimize personalization and allow to adapt to different styles: from fun, informal spaces to serious, architectural environments and also neutral, calm areas to relax and unwind. Customized colours are also available on demand.

SAREK Collection. It consists of 5 modules that can be arranged -and rearranged- to form a variety of dynamic structures, from straight lines to undulating configurations. Robust in its essence, the collection features a fluid, organic design made of curved, soft shapes and tactile surfaces that allow a comfortable, pleasant rest.

The collection is complemented by a range of accessories that improve the functionality of spaces adding style and character. It includes a flowerpot, panels, a round table, a side table and a dustbin available in two versions. Modules can also integrate power outlets connected to technical floors.

The lightness of modules is perfect to reconfigure them when flexibility of design is required; on the other hand, for permanent structures used in shared spaces, modules can be fixed with a clip.

Recently, the SAREK Collection has been selected to furnish the rest areas of the X-MADRID shopping mall in Alcorcón (Madrid) that offers also an innovative recreation area, totally unique in Europe for its wide array of leisure activities, including a climbing wall and an area for e-games. After a hectic afternoon shopping, climbing and playing there is nothing better that a comfortable seat to unwind!

ABISKO Collection. ABISKO is a comfortable, charming stool that has been specially designed to improve people’s experience and create a serene atmosphere in shared spaces. Available in three different designs, the ABISKO stool is stable, highly resistant and efficient for intense use in contract spaces. Its versatile character is enhanced by the choice of 14 different colours for the upholstery and the two different materials available for the legs: black metal legs will provide a minimalist, contemporary look, whereas wooden legs are perfect to add a Nordic touch to spaces.
