Virtual Salone Milano 2020: EXPORMIM, handcrafted indoor and outdoor furniture
Trends come and go, fashions fade away, lifestyles change, and designs are renewed incessantly, but at EXPORMIM there is one thing that remains unchanged: the great craftmanship that goes in all their furniture and that have passed unaltered over generations. Of course, the company has been modernised and production processes have been innovated and yet it hasn’t lost a hint of its authenticity.
Founded in 1960 and dedicated to designing and manufacturing furniture for over 60 years yet, EXPORMIM has managed to overcome the ups and downs of the market working hard on the consolidation of their brand and shifting the production from wicker products to high-quality indoor and outdoor furniture that is sold to over 50 countries, specially to France, U.S.A., Australia and the Middle East.
The perfect blending of tradition and innovation, the enhancement of rattan – a sustainable material, much lighter than wood – and the development of highly technical furniture collections in cooperation with renowned architects and designers – Oscar Tusquets Blanca, Benedetta Tagliabue, Jaime Hayon, Manel Molina, Lievore Altherr Molina or Mario Ruiz – are largely responsible for the increasing success of EXPORMIM’s products, which are currently supplied to major contract projects. Here are some product highlights for the 2020 season…
ARMADILLO armchair. Design by MUT Design
After the NAUTICA swing chair and the TWINS armchairs, the studio MUT Design now proposes ARMADILLO, the new seat created for EXPORMIM that blends beauty, Mediterranean essence and the fine craftsmanship so typical of the Spanish brand.
Made of peeled and tinted natural rattan – a material typically associated with classic outdoor furniture -, ARMADILLO is a reinterpretation of the papasan bowl chairs that became so popular in the middle of the last century.
Simplicity and attention to tradition characterize this new item that pays homage to the work of craftsmen who still bend and sand the rods by hand. With its low, visually transparent silhouette, ARMADILLO is light yet provided with great stability and comfort.
LIZ outdoor sofa & armchair. Design by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba
Designed by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, the LIZ outdoor lounge collection pays tribute to the sensual and captivating forms of cinema icon Liz Taylor and the flair of the ‘50s. The way the elastic fabric extends over its tubular metallic structure creates lines and transparencies, generating a play of light and shadows.
This collection, which includes an armchair, a sofa and an XL armchair, offers multiple opportunities for customisation through a wide variety of technical fabrics completely suitable for outdoor use.
FRAMES dining chair and armchair. Design by Jaime Hayon
In 2014, Jaime Hayon launched the FRAMES room divider, the first piece of a new collection created for EXPORMIM. Lately, it has been expanded to include a new armchair and a new dining chair, conceived for small and coquettish spaces, along with a low armchair. With their structure made of peeled and tinted natural rattan, a material used in handcrafted furniture for centuries, the chairs maintain authenticity yet display a modern approach to tradition, changing the perception of how it can be used.
Seat and backrest are manufactured in tinted natural wicker (“octagonal wicker”) with optional seat cushions available in a choice of upholstery in natural or faux leather, virgin wool fabrics, velvet or polypropylene. The chairs are available in 11 different colours, including Japanese Red, Forest Green and Navy Blue…
