Sun, striking architecture, good design, a buzzing food scene and a broad agenda of cultural activities, Valencia in September transforms into a perfect setting for the 56th edition of the most important event of the Spanish furnishing and lighting industry: the Feria Hábitat Valencia. Scheduled for September, from the 20th to the 23rd, Spain’s leading fair for made in Spain interiors will host around 600 exhibitors – 20% of which will be foreign companies – and draw some 33,000 visitors coming from more than 70 countries to Spain’s third-largest city.
There is much excitement around the FHV 2022 which is set to host an unparalleled offering in terms of both quantity and quality. As a result, the exhibition space will be occupying more than 70,000 square metres in 7 halls distributed on two levels, 2 and 3. Visitors can expect a show full of amazing designs, innovative products, new materials and creative ideas, plus a series of design-led fringe events, workshops, talks and presentations.
Besides, Valencia has been designated World Design Capital for 2022 and the local design industry will bask in the glow of its rich programme of events that will attract thousands of international professionals, architects, interior designers and influencers to the city. In this context, Feria Hábitat Valencia and its collateral exhibitions, Espacio Cocina SICI and the Home Textile Premium by TEXTILHOGAR, will contribute some of the most significant content for the World Design Capital Valencia 2022 programme.
One of the most outstanding activities in the framework of the celebration of design in the streets of Valencia will be the ‘HabitatOFF’ parties, which every afternoon will bring the hustle and bustle of Feria Hábitat Valencia to the centre of the city, specifically to the brand new Ágora Valencia installation.
Production and exports of furniture on the rise
The fair is taking place against a positive backdrop, with the furniture industry appearing resilient after the consequences of the global pandemic. Figures from the Spanish Furniture Market Observatory at the Technology Institute AIDIMME indicate that furniture manufacturing was worth 6,648 million euros in 2021, +11,9% up on the previous year.
Exports, for their part, are still the driving force of the industry, registering significant growth. According to the trade association ANIEME, in 2021 exports of Spanish furniture grew by 25.5%, exceeding 2,613 million euros in value. The figures are even better for the Valencia Community, which exported 644 million euros in 2021 – a +30.4% over the previous year.
National and international design
Halls on level 3 will host some of the best brands of the Spanish designer furniture industry, including ANDREU WORLD, ALEXANDRA, GANDIABLASCO, SANCAL, EXPORMIM, VONDOM, POINT and PUNT, among many others. They will be showcasing the latest creations and solutions for indoors and outdoors by top-notch designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Christophe Pillet, Jasper Morrison, Jaime Hayón, Monica Armani, Norm Architects, MUT Design, Mario Ruiz, Yonoh, Francesc Rifé, estudi{h}ac., etc.
Innovation, technology and sustainability play a major role in this sector with furnishing collections made of avant-garde materials, including recyclable PET fibres, renewable raw materials, the highly-resistance surfaces and anti-pollution textiles – such as the Pureti fabrics -, or integrating mechanisms activated by digital or voice assistance devices.

Commercially speaking, one of the most relevant sections at the fair are those dedicated to the contemporary décor and the upholstered furniture. At the 2022 edition of FHV, the contemporary offer, declined in many styles and trends, will be a great protagonist as demonstrated by the presence of almost all the biggest names in this segment, including GARCÍA SABATÉ, MONRABAL CHIRIVELLA, THAI NATURA, VICALHOME, GRUPO SEYS, FRANCO FURNITURE, ROS, FENICIA. For the first time, the event welcomes three of the most important European groups in the sector as exhibitors: the Dutch Eichholtz, the Italian EDG, the Portoguese A.BRITO, and the French Athezza.
The upholstered furniture market will be represented by Spain’s top manufacturers such as FAMA, GAMAMOBEL, PEDRO ORTIZ, ACOMODEL, DIVANI STAR, among many others.
Major mattress and bedding producers DUPEN, SENTTIX, GOMARCO, KARIBIAN, FORMAS DESCANSO, and DOLCE CONFORT are also back at the fair.
As for visitors, the expectations are optimistic. The fair organizers, in collaboration with the Spanish National Association of Furniture Manufacturers and Exporters (ANIEME) and the Spanish Lighting Association FEDAI, have sent invitations to buyers and specifiers in as many as 25 countries. The organization confirms as well the visit of the most important furniture buying groups from France, including such important firms as Conforama, But France, Zeeloft, and Mes Meubles.
