Clerkenwell Design Week 2026: Lightweight Outdoor Furniture and Geometric Rugs by GANDIABLASCO and GAN
Few European design groups operate with the same long-term vision as Gandia Blasco Group. From its Mediterranean base in Ontinyent, the company has built a coherent design ecosystem that moves fluidly between outdoor furniture and textile surfaces. What began in 1941 as a textile manufacturer has evolved into a design-led business with a strong international footprint, shaped by continuous reinvention and close collaboration with architects and designers.
At Clerkenwell Design Week 2026, the group presents two of its most defined identities: GANDIABLASCO and GAN. One focuses on outdoor systems where structure, material and climate intersect; the other explores textile through craft, texture and pattern. Together, they articulate a broader design position: furniture and surfaces not as isolated objects, but as tools to construct atmosphere and spatial continuity across indoor and outdoor contexts.

CORD is not about novelty. It is about refinement—balancing minimal geometry, tactile surfaces and long-term usability. The result is a collection that integrates easily into both historical settings and contemporary architectural frameworks, across indoor and outdoor environments.

Designed by Groundwork Studio, CORD draws on the Danish tradition of paper cord seating and Mediterranean wicker, reinterpreted through materials suited to outdoor use. The structure is defined by a 12 mm stainless steel frame, precise and lightweight, onto which fibrillated polypropylene rope is woven to form seats and backrests. This construction establishes a clear contrast between industrial metal and textured cord, while ensuring resistance to weather and intensive use.

Ergonomics are embedded in the design. The woven surfaces provide a flexible, breathable support that adapts to the body without additional upholstery—an advantage in warm climates and contract environments. The collection includes a lounger, lounge chair, dining chair and a dining table with a porcelain top, enabling coherent configurations across dining and relaxation areas without visual excess or material redundancy.
PLY Rug Collection | By MUT Design
PLY operates through geometry and perception. Designed by MUT Design for GAN, the collection is based on continuous, interlocking forms that fold back onto themselves, creating a pattern without a fixed beginning or end.

This repetition generates a subtle optical effect. As light interacts with the surface, the pattern appears to shift, introducing movement without relying on strong contrasts or complex colour schemes. The palettes—pink, blue and yellow—are controlled and contemporary, designed to integrate into interior projects while maintaining a distinct visual identity.

Each rug is hand-tufted in 100% wool, reinforcing GAN’s focus on craftsmanship and material quality. The collection includes a circular format (Ø245 cm) and elongated versions (up to 300 cm in length), making it suitable for a range of contract applications—from lounge areas to circulation spaces. PLY is defined less by decoration than by its ability to structure space through pattern, scale and texture.

At Clerkenwell Design Week 2026, GANDIABLASCO and GAN present two parallel approaches within the same design group. CORD focuses on outdoor performance, structural precision and material efficiency, while PLY explores textile through geometry and craft. Together, they offer specifiers a broader understanding of how furniture and surfaces can operate independently across different spatial contexts, each with its own logic and application.
