The EOLO PURETI parasol by Ezpeleta has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2020

The EOLO PURETI anti-pollution parasol from Spain’s outdoor furniture manufacturer EZPELETA has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award 2020 in the Product Design category.

With record entry numbers, extensive testing procedures and exciting discussions, the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2020 competition received more than 6,500 products from 60 countries, which constitutes a rise of approximately 18% in entry numbers compared to the previous year. Focusing on smart and innovative products, the panel of around 40 jurors selected 1,644 products that won them over with their outstanding design quality.

As for EOLO PURETI, the jury stated that it fascinates with an innovative coating that improves air quality – a feature that meaningfully complements the sun protection.

“We intended to design an umbrella combining aesthetics, durability, ease of use, sustainability and a very competitive price. We thought that no umbrella in the market balanced all five elements in such a reasonable way”, said Miguel Ardao, CEO of the company.

EOLO PURETI is an anti-pollution umbrella that stands out for its attractive, innovative design and environmental-friendly features. The fabric of this parasol is treated with the disruptive Pureti photocatalytic nanotechnology patented by the homonymous US company. When in contact with sunlight and humidity, the nanotechnology favours the neutralisation of pollutants, an air-cleaning effect that is comparable to the photosynthesis of trees.

The effectiveness of this technology has been widely proven by the most renowned American and European universities, as well as by several laboratories and institutions specialized in photocatalysis, which have come to the conclusion that EOLO PURETI has the same anti-pollution effects as two trees.

Light, durable and easy to use, it is provided with a groundbreaking folding/unfolding system with a blocking push button. It is composed of four reinforced ribs with solid plastic central joint pieces. The individual parts of the parasol are connected by simple click system, which provides a strong anchoring and at the same time simplifies dismantling. This system also allows replacing individual pieces, thus giving the product a longer life.

Sustainability is another big issue, as the smaller number of elements of its structure requires a reduced use of raw materials, making it also easier to separate all different elements for recycling.

“All of these features, combined with the media hype of getting two awards (HIP and Red Dot), are likely to turn the piece into a best-selling product and a design icon“, stated Miguel Ardao.

The RedDot design award is one of the most important prizes in the world. This award recognizes quality and innovation among designers and manufacturers who create new products for home and professional use.

This year, due to the exceptional circumstances of the covid-19 pandemic, the prize award ceremony will not be held. Instead, there will be a communication campaign in digital media: Red Dot Design Week, from the 22nd to the 26th of June 2020.
