NAUTICA, the hanging chair of EXPORMIM, awarded with the RED DOT 2014
The NAUTICA swing chair, designed by Alberto Sánchez (Mut Design) for the Spanish EXPORMIM, has been awarded with the prestigious Red Dot 2014 to the best product design. Get more info…
The RED DOT Award is given yearly in Essen (Germany) where the Institution is based, and is without any doubt the most coveted international design recognition. The aim of the award is to highlight the quality and the innovation on the product design area internationally. Since 1955 these awards have given recognition to designers, manufacturers and brands with worldwide recognition.
Nautica is a hanging chair that pays homage to one of the first pieces created by Expormim in the 70s. The swing designed by Mut Design is intended to astonish and rethink the use of rattan. The use of natural fibres appeal above all to the aesthetic of natural. It’s neither a nostalgic look back nor an aesthetic resource based on the distressed trend.
No matter if it hangs from a tree branch, or from a floor-standing structure, NAUTICA stands out thanks to the subtle play of shadows resulting from its movement that recalls the reflection of the sunlight falling on the ocean waves. Despite its visual lightness, the piece is notable for its sturdiness and resistance. It is also suitable for any sort of space, always inviting to enjoy its rocking movement.
In the words of its creators: “Nautica is the result of the attention to detail, the desire for provocation and the respect for the tradition of crafting rattan as unique and main material in its design”.
