Spanish furniture brands present at Clerkenwell Design Week
This week, from the 22nd to the 24th of May, Clerkenwell, a small area of London will turn into an international hub of design innovation. Professionals and experts of the interior design and furniture industries will gather around from all over the world to attend Clerkenwell Design Week, an event which has established itself as being one of the most exciting design festivals in the world. Spain couldn’t miss it and a small but significant representation of its furniture and design industry will show off their latest collections at CDW.
The Clerkenwell district over the years has been exceedingly gaining reputation as one of the most dynamic areas of London, bursting with artisanal workshops, interior design studios and showrooms. CDW celebrates this rich, diverse community as it showcases a selection of the top UK and international brands in various showroom events, exhibitions and special installations that will take place across the district.
Among the wide variety of interesting and exciting showrooms and exhibitions is the unmissable Design Fields, an area dedicated to high-end, contemporary design, which features the latest ideas of the furniture industry, arriving fresh from Salone del Mobile.Milano. Within the impressive offer of international brands, is Andreu World: a worldwide referent for upholstery and design innovation. As the company has recently set up a permanent showroom in the Clerkenwell district, it will be exhibiting all of its newest collections in its new space: the DUOS chair, the RAGLAN sofa, the ALYA chair and CAPRI LOUNGE armchairs and newly launched NUEZ chair.
The sleek design and delicate proportions of the NUEZ chair, a piece by Patricia Urquiola (Andreu World), was inspired by the folds of a sheet of paper and is suggestive and warm while still technologically advanced. CAPRI LOUNGE can transform any lounge or waiting area into a stress-free zone of harmonious tranquillity as it offers extreme comfort with its generous proportions.
Moreover, the RAGLAN collection is an ergonomic modular sofa system which is defined by its great comfort and style. Designed by Piergiorgio Cazzaniga, it was envisioned as a dynamic seating system to create collaboration areas in corporate, public and private spaces. Its meticulous upholstery work and elaborate stitching detail grant an extensive range of fabrics, colour and finish combinations.
iSiMAR, a leading Spanish brand of outdoor and contract furniture will be showcasing its most recent pieces, such its latest additions to the LAGARTO collection. LAGARTO is a one-of-a-kind, dynamic outdoor collection, which includes a sinuous, modular sofa that mimics the body of a serpent. At the recent instalment of Salone del Mobile.Milano last month, iSiMAR revealed armchairs and stools to further complete the collection. These pieces can be utilised in both indoor and outdoor spaces, and have been reinforced with UV-resistant materials.
Another exhibiting Spanish brand is Ondarreta, whose designs are characterised by comfort and oneness to nature. This Basque furniture company is to be set up in the Design Fields exhibit, with its fresh designs that it unveiled in Milan last month.
The DRY collection consists of an ultra-sleek storage solution; modular shelves that will inject style and vivacity to cool spaces. It is complemented by the recently-launched DRY table which can be customised to fit any space as it comes in different heights, widths and lengths.
The SILU chair is a fusion of traditional wood bending techniques with the most contemporary design; it can inject style into any space with its sinuous profile and stackability.
In addition, INCLASS displays their latest collections from the most recent Salone del Mobile.Milano on the lower ground floor of the Gabriel Showroom in the Clerkenwell district. The VARYA collection is an exploration of seating patterns as it seeks to find the universal, versatile, elegant and essential chair that can fit any contemporary ambience. It consists of an extensive range of chairs, armchairs, stools and benches; available in wooden or metallic bases and it can be upholstered in 12 different colours.
Forming an integral part of the design fair, are the local resident showrooms which collaborate with CDW each year to provide the festival with a stimulating programme of topic-led events including talks, workshops and product launches.
The Actiu Showroom in London, located in East Clerkenwell, is a studio where interior designers and architects can have a first-hand look at the brand’s latest solutions for innovative work environments. Actiu will present its most recent collections: POWER and TALENT; systems of office tables that combine contemporary design and cutting-edge technology to provide workspaces with extra functionality and mobility.
Actiu will lead many different seminars and cultural experiences over the course of CDW, including a hydro-printing workshop and a paella feast. Likewise, Andreu World, brand new to the Clerkenwell community with their recently opened showroom, will also host a range of events including talks with top international designers like Alfredo Häberli.
